Description

As a young artist in the early 60s, Outterbridge combined his interest in abstraction and West African culture with the budding art movements of Pop art and Minimalism. He began to use industrial materials with the Containment series after seeing the work of sculptor Mark di Suvero. As a part of this series, this work explores the concept of boundaries: formal ones like frames; material ones like straps and sheet metal; and physical ones like cells and borders.
