Bio

A descendant of Inca nobility, Quispe Tito was born in Cusco and became the leading painter of the city. His work was informed by Italian Mannerist style, introduced in the previous generation by the Jesuit artist Bernardo Bitti (Italian, 1548–1610). Quispe Tito retained a distinctive manner characterized by clarity of presentation and endearing characterizations that project sincere emotions.
